BOOST YOUR BRAIN POWER

According to Psychology Today May/June 1996 -->
The foods we eat affect the body. Foods may have even more influence
on how the brain handles its tasks. Mood, motivation, and mental
performance are powerfully influenced by diet.As a general rule, to turn your
brain into a lean, mean thinking machine, you might consider an eating plan
designed to boost your BRAIN POWER.
Pick any food that is brightly colored.
It will no doubt be a brain food, loaded with vitamins, minerals,
and phyto-chemicals that maintain brain health and will improve your mental performance.
The following foods are GOOD
FOR YOUR MOOD AND YOUR BRAIN:

skinless chicken lean meats    salmon
tuna sardines skim & low-fat dairy products
broccoli cabbage brussels sprouts
tomatoes carrots squash
cherries apples apricots
grapefruit grapes peaches
berries kale soy foods
herring garlic oranges

REPETITION REPETITION

Throughout life, repetition is important in all learning. Scientists
think that seeing or hearing the same information many times improves the
connections between neurons. Each time the same message travels through
certain neurons, the pathways become better established.

Think about the repetition we all endure via media advertisements.
Surely, the advertising honchos understand how useful repetition is in getting
a *buy-it* message across. As a parent and/or teacher, consider using repetition
to help students “get the message.”
Daily drill is useful for acquiring skills such as – basic math facts,
spelling words, learning the states and capitals, etc.
Students often enjoy reading the same book over and over.
Encourage the re-reading of favorite books.
Also, be repetitious in daily schedules and procedures --
in teacher “lingo” this is “structure”.
ADD/ADHDers seem to do better if daily procedures are consistent.
Picture Day for an ADD/ADHDer can be quite traumatic with all the
shuffling around, people wearing different clothes, having to disrupt
normal schedules, etc. Warning of upcoming “out of sinc” activities will
allow the ADD/ADHDer to cope better.
Be aware that ADDers don’t handle surprises well.

Consistency and structure is quite beneficial at school and at home.

IT'S YOUR CHOICE

Consider EATING BY THE COLORS and USING REPETITION TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
